Jose Napoleon Duarte, Salvadoran Leader In Decade of War and Anguish, Dies at 64
LEAD: Jose Napoleon Duarte, the former President of El Salvador who oversaw a shaky experiment in centrist civilian government after nearly a century of military rule, died yesterday at his home in San Salvador, his doctor said. He was 64 years old and had been diagnosed in May 1988 as having advanced liver cancer.
